Description

Purpose

To produce, manage and deliver, piping engineering and design work for contracts and projects under the direction of the Engineering Manager.

Role Accountability

  • Responsible for Safety and Environmental implications of engineering design
  • Responsible for piping engineering and design development in accordance with the project quality plan, and all applicable codes and legislation
  • Production or checking of detailed piping calculations and specification
  • Generation and checking of piping specifications, drawings and data sheets
  • Responsible for change control to design documentation
  • Development and approval of all piping engineering drawings and deliverables in accordance with EFAB and client procedures
  • Carry out literature searches
  • Responsible for collation of design information
  • Selection and liaison with equipment suppliers
  • Investigate, develop and train others in new processes and design techniques
  • Checking and approval of engineering design work by others
  • Manage small sized piping projects
  • Act as the main client discipline liaison during project execution
  • Prepare piping engineering estimates and manage discipline engineering budgets

Key Indicators/Requirements

  • Full compliance with all applicable procedures including; HSE, HR, Quality, Administrative, Operational, Engineering, and Project
  • Timely delivery of all project and engineering requirements, whilst meeting all other associated KPI’s including, HSE, Quality, Productivity, Commercial, Customer Satisfaction
  • Contributing to the achievement of KPI’s associated with the whole of EFAB across all projects and disciplines
  • The minimisation of mobilisation periods and down-time by provision of accurate information to the Engineering Manager (M&E) for resource/recruitment planning

Commercial & Risk

  • Protection at all times of the commercial position with any subcontracts or projects that are managed, ensuring the Operations/Project Manager is fully briefed regarding risk issues at all times
  • The Lead Piping Engineer must ensure that the company’s commercial position is not compromised at any time during project or engineering package delivery. Full adherence is required to all company statutory financial controls and procedures, and also any project specific procedures that may be required under the Contract.
  • Maintain full awareness of the total commercial position of the project/CTR or work package at all times, ensuring delay/disruption and variation issues are managed in an appropriate and timely manner thus the required profit margins are delivered. Advise Engineering Manager and / or the Project Manager, of any issues that may have a significant commercial impact on the project as soon as they become evident.
  • Completion of Piping/CTR’s/Packages to meet all commercial KPI’s

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality

  • Working within the company’s ISO 9001:2000 quality systems, ensure all mechanical engineering and design activities are supplied to meet the Contract’s requirements, including all appropriate contract specifications and quality plans
  • Manage safety within the piping discipline, ensuring compliance with all legal and company procedures and promoting a positive and proactive attitude to working safely at all levels
  • Develop and maintain piping specific quality plans
  • When managing work packages/small projects, the Lead Piping Engineer is responsible for the safe execution of all works and activities on the project, by both direct and subcontract engineers or staff, must keep up to date with all current industry applicable safety legislation and company procedures
  • Deliver all mechanical engineering, design, and associated project activities without any non-conformances to all company, client, and project specific quality and safety plans
  • Contribute to and provide ideas for continuous improvements within the mechanical engineering department with respect to HSEQ

Leadership

  • To manage any assigned engineering and design staff and subcontractors in such a manner that all targets are met or exceeded
  • To be responsible for the day-to-day care and security of all assigned resources
  • Maximise productivity by clear direction and control of all assigned resources.
  • HR Procedural adherence
  • Disciplinary procedure attendance and compliance
  • Mentoring/coaching developing engineers
  • Motivate assigned resources

Communication

  • To help develop and maintain good relationships within and outside the department with all internal and external clients
  • Communicate effectively with all

Technical Requirements

  • Ability to perform the role as a lead piping engineering consultant, and personally deliver the piping engineering requirements for all stages of a project
  • Keep up to speed with latest piping industry standards, technology, and norms, within the Oil & Gas, Petrochem, and Energy industrial sectors
  • A good understanding of the availability and use of all electronic tools available to a piping engineering department
  • Be familiar with the software and in particular ISO generation packages used by the design function at EFAB
  • Represent the company as an expert in piping engineering
  • Contribute actively to the provision of a centre of excellence of Piping Engineering within East region

Business Development

  • Act as an ambassador to EFAB, always presenting the right image to existing and potential clients. To attend meetings and forums, representing the Company
  • Clients/ stakeholders – forge links and communication systems with
  • Assist in the estimating of mechanical engineering/design work packages and development of proposals
  • Negotiate and close-out tenders with existing and new clients
  • Satisfied clients
  • Growth in departmental turnover
  • Achievement of KPI’s with regard to client type, industry sector, and terms of engagement

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Significant mechanical engineering and design experience at a senior level principally within the process plant and/or power industries
  • Good understanding of process safety requirements on top tier COMAH sites
  • Experienced in the use of engineering software and tools, including AutoCAD, and ideally Caesar II and SmartPlant

Essential Skills

  • Effective communication and time management
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers/draughtsmen
  • Ability to manage costs and schedule to tight budgets/deadlines
