Description
Purpose
The Senior Process Safety Engineer is responsible for delivering complex and challenging technical process safety solutions to clients in the form of standalone consultancy, acting as subject matter expert across a range of projects and technical areas and for guiding and checking the technical solutions of more junior Engineers as necessary, on time and budget and in accordance with all relevant Engineering and Company procedures.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting Process Safety activities, e.g. HAZOP, HAZID, SWIFT, LOPA, SIL, ATEX, DSEAR etcetera
- Ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) aspects of projects are maintained to relevant acceptable standards
- Assisting in setting HSE criteria for projects and in the preparation and content of the Process Safety Plan and Environmental Plan
- Acting as HSE expert for all projects, supporting project management and engineering disciplines with Process Safety concerns and queries
- Gathering & compiling Process Safety and Environmental information
- Establishing risk tolerances
- Preparing Process Safety Basis of Safety
- Devising suitable and sufficient Hazard Studies to meet client requirements
- Conducting Process Safety Reviews such as Human factors, Hazardous Area Classification, Inherent Safety, Alarm Prioritisation
- Maintaining Process Safety documentation for projects
- Supporting the Business Development team on sales visits, conference calls and/ or client meetings
- Leading and supporting the production of compelling and competitive proposals

Commercial & Risk
- Inform project manager / line manager of potential project risks identified in a timely manner
- Work within allocated CTR, man hours, and budget
- Demonstrate clear understating of the commercial status of projects, identify and manage changes, and understand and manage own budget
- Will support the development of the project plan and any help develop milestones
- Will support the incorporation of approved changes into the project plan and will update the plan as required
- Act as an ambassador for the Company, always presenting the right image to existing and potential clients
- To attend meetings and forums, representing the Company
- Assist in the estimating of engineering work packages and development of proposals and other Business Development activities as required from time-to-time
- Forge links and establish communication with clients and stakeholders
