Purpose The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for delivering complex and challenging technical solutions across a range of projects and technical areas, and for guiding and checking the technical solutions of more junior Engineers as necessary, on time and budget and in accordance with all relevant Engineering and Company procedures. A significant proportion of this role is in the management and control of externally supplied mechanical equipment packages.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for planning and reviewing the technical activities and solutions of others, and ensuring that they are the optimum in terms of time, cost and quality. They must also develop ideas and improvements that will offer advantages in allowing the Company to undertake project work more efficiently.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be familiar with all technical developments in their area of expertise and will bring developments in best practice, technology and legislation to the attention of the Company. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be the ultimate technical authority in a specific field of their engineering discipline, but will also be competent across a wide range of fields commensurate with the management of externally supplied mechanical equipment The Lead Mechanical Engineer will undertake technical reviews of complex projects, working with discipline Engineers and the Procurement, Commercial and Construction departments, to ensure that the technical solutions being delivered offer the best solution to the Company.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the technical correctness and quality of Company procedures and processes in their area of expertise, and where changes are necessary will ensure that these are made and rolled out to other members of their team as necessary.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will demonstrate full understanding of and adherence to all relevant Engineering Procedures, Policies and Standards, and their practical application.

Commercial & Risk
• Inform project manager / line manager of potential project risks identified in a timely manner.
• Work within allocated CTR, man hours, and budget.
• Demonstrate clear understating of the commercial status of projects, identify and manage changes, and understand and manage own budget.
• Will support the development of the project plan and any help develop milestones.
• Will support the incorporation of approved changes into the project plan and will update the plan as required.
• Act as an ambassador for ENGIE Fabricom, always presenting the right image to existing and potential clients.
• To attend meetings and forums, representing the Company.
• Assist in the estimating of engineering work packages and development of proposals and other Business Development activities as required from time-to-time.
• Forge links and establish communication with clients and stakeholders.

• Be familiar with all relevant engineering and design software, with a good understanding of the availability and use of all relevant electronic tools and software.
• Full awareness and understanding of the content of EFAB Engineering Procedures, and their practical application.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications
• Experienced Engineer.
• Build effective working relationships at all levels.
• Educated to a minimum of degree level.
• Chartered Engineer or Chartered Fellow.
• Experienced people manager, and competent team leader.
• Experienced negotiator and influencer at all levels.
• Can communicate skills, knowledge and experience, and apply them professionally as a trusted expert, to explain ideas and technical information and discuss and resolve technical issues.
• Act as an ambassador for positive culture.
• Full clean driving licence.
• Occasional flexible working required.
• Occasional lone and/or home working required.
• Frequent UK travel and occasional overseas travel.
• In-depth technical knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, guidelines. systems and processes.
